FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We welcome your questions about the project. Send questions, comments, or concerns to Project Personnel and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
  • National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
  • National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
  • National Institute on Aging (NIA)

Q: How are you protecting my identity on this website?
We have taken several steps to protect your confidentiality:
  • We do not store your name or contact information on this web site or web server.
  • When you use the Update Contact Information, the information is sent to the Project Supervisor in an email; it is not stored anywhere on our web server. This means that only the Project Supervisor can access this email information.
  • We do not use any names or images of any study members on our web site. Study findings are reported in summary form, never in such a way that an individual or family could be identified.
  • In addition, the Project Director has received a Certificate of Confidentiality from the Federal Government that will help us protect the privacy of research subjects enrolled in this study. The Certificate of Confidentiality allows the investigator and others who have access to research records to refuse to disclose identifying information on research participants in any civil, criminal, administrative, legislative, or other proceeding, whether at the federal, state, or local level.

Q: I need to reschedule my interview. How do I do this?
Please click here to reschedule, or call us at 1-530-219-7920

Q: What kind of training do recruiters and interviewers receive?
Our Recruiters and Interviewers are highly trained professionals. Each year they attend rigorous training in which they review and learn recruiting and interviewing protocol. Before they are allowed to contact family members, Recruiters and Interviewers must demonstrate that they understand recruiting and interviewing techniques in theory and in practice and fully realize the tremendous responsibility they have as members of the research team who have direct contact with study participants. Our staff is comprised of telephone Recruiters who work to schedule your visits and Interviewers who visit you in person. The California Families Project is dedicated to providing the best possible experience in terms of your working relationship with employees representing the project.

Q: How long will this study continue?
Our goal is to continue following all participants -- both parents and youth -- for as long as possible.
